-Shuka Uthpathi (Birth of
sage Shuka)
( The birth of
sage Shuka is described. While sage Vyasa
ants him to adopt the duties of householder , Sage Shukha was not interested, Sage
Vyasa sheds tears. This is another part of Chapter XIV of book I)

1.Krishnasya thayaranitha Sukhakhyaa,
Sthava prasadaadhajanishta puthra,
Hrushto munir
mangala karma chakre,
Thannadhitheyo
vavrushu sumaani.
1.As your divine gift
Shuka was born ,
From the fire place
to Krishna dvaipayana ,
And he joyously
observed several auspicious
rituals,
And devas caused a
rain of flowers there.
2,Kechij jagu
kechana vaadhya gosham,
Chakruscha naake
nanruthu sthriyascha,
Vaayur vavou sparsa sukha sugandha,
Shukodhbhave sarva janaa
prahrushtaa.
2.Some devas sang
, some played musical instruments,
Ladies danced,
pleasant breeze wafted with pleasant
scent,
And at the birth of Sukha all people
became happy.
3.Bala sa sadhyo vavrudhe
suchethaa,
Brahaspatheratha samastha
vidhyaa,
Dathvaa vinetho guru dakshinaam cha ,
Prathyagatho harshayathi sma thaatham.
3.That boy grew up
very fast and he,
Who was intelligent learnt all knowledges,
From Brahaspathi, gave him “Teachers fee”,
With humility and
drowned his father in joy.
4.Yuvanmekaanthapa pravrutham,
Vyasa
kadachith shukamevasmooche,
Vedamscha sasthraani cha
vethsi puthra,
Kruthwaa vivaaham
bhava sadruhastha.
4.Once Vyasa spoke
like this to the lad Shuka ,
Who used to
meditate alone, “Hey son,
You already know
Vedas and Sastras,
Please get married and be a householder.
5.SArvaasramaanaam
kavayo visishta,
Gruhasramam sresta
tharam vadanthi,
Thamasritha sthishtathi loka yesha,
Yajaswa devaan
vidhivath pithrumscha.
5.Very great wise people are telling
that,
The position of
house holder is greatest,
And this world agrees to that and observes
it,
And that also causes
pleasure to devas and manes.
6.THavaasthu
sathputhra rinadaham cha,
Muchyeya maam thwam
sukhinamm kurushwa,
Puthra sukha yaathra parathra cha syaath,
THwaam
puthratheevrair labhe thapobhi.
6.Let a good son be born to you making me free of debt,
And let the son make me
and you have a happy life
In this as well
as the other world and oh son,
It was due to very tough Thapas that I got you.
7.Kincha pramaadhini
sadendriyaani,
Haranthi
chitham prasabham narasya,
Pasyan pithaa may jananeem thapasvi,
Parasarepi smara
mohitho abhooth.
7.Not only
that , the senses which cannot be controlled,
Are stealing the
mind of man with force and shaking them,
And even mu father
Parasara who was a great sage,
Was attracted as
soon as he saw my mother.
8.Ya
aasramadhasramamethi thathath-,
Karmaani
kurvan sa sukhi sadaa syaath,
Gruhasramo naiva
cha bandha hethu,
Sthvayaa cha
dheeman kriyathaam vivaha.
8.He goes from one stage
of life to other,
Doing the
duties of that stage of life,
Would always have
a life filled with pleasure,
The stage of life of a householder does not create ties,
And so Oh great
one you get yourself married.
9. Evam bruvaanopi
Sukham Vivahaa-
Dhyasakthamaajnayaa pitheva Raagi,
Purana karthaa cha
jagat guru sa,
Maya nimagno aasru vilochanobhooth.
9.Even after telling all
this realizing ,
That Sukha does
not have liking to marriage,
Being his father
as well as teacher of the world,
Just like an ordinary father, caught in illusion ,
shed tears.
10.BHogeshu may
nispruhan asthu maathaa,
Pralobhithomaa
karavaani paapam,
Maa bhadathaam
maam thava devi mayaa,
Maayadhinadhe sathatham namasthe
10.Oh mother, let me get
detached from sensory enjoyment,
Let me not get
attachment and start doing sins,
Oh Goddess, let your
maya not affect me,
Oh Goddess who
rules over Maya, Always to you my salutations.
