Dasakam 4 Madhu Kaidabha Vadha -Killing of Madhu and Kaidabha

Dasakam 4  Madhu Kaidabha Vadha  -Killing of Madhu and Kaidabha

(This is the summary  of  chapters  Vi, VII   and Viii of  book I  of devi Bhagwatham . Lord Vishnu   fights with those Asuras    for 5000 years. He gets tired not able to win over them  and prays to the  Goddess.Lord Vishu praised the asuras   and offered to give them any boon they wanted but those proud  asuras  completely  befuddled by the  Goddess   do not want any boon but offer  Lord  Vishnu any boon that  he wants. He asks a boon to be  able to kill them .The asuras told that  they can be killed  but not in water. Due to water  of deluge   surrounding all places. He raised his thighs above the water , keeps them   on his thigh    and  kills them.)

Translated by
P.R.Ramachander

1.Thwam   thaamai supthara Madhavangaja,
Shymaa ruchaa  mOhana thamra  lochana,
Yekaarnave  ghora ranothsukaan Harim,
Daithyo cha thou smeramukhi   samaikshadha,

1.She who arose   from the body of sleeping Vishnu,
Who was black, and who has pretty   reddish eyes
Kept on seeing with a smile, Lord Vishnu,
And those two Asuras  who were enthused by the war.

2.Pasyathmaje bahuranam   murarinaa,
Kruthwaa  Madhu  sranthimavaapa sathwaram,
Abhyethya yuham   kuruthe sama  Kaidabha,
Sraanthe   cha   thasmin krutha aahavam madhu.

2.Lord Brahma   saw that  Madhu   fought with  ,
Fists and got defeated due to tiresomeness,
And immediately the undefeatable Kaidabha,
Started  fighting the war and when he  got tired,
Madhu   came and fought the   war again.

3.Yevam muhu  sangara visrama bhoobhou,
Paryayatho   varsha  sahasra  panchakam,
Glaanim   vinaa  chakrathurachyutha klamaadh,
Vishraanthi micha nnasuro   jagaadha thi.

3. Thus those   two  went on fighting   for,
Five thousand years    without   getting tired,
As  they were  fighting   as well   as taking rest,
Again and again , but Lord Vishnu  who desired  rest,
Due to being tired  looked at  them and told like this.

4.Sranthena  bheethena   cha balakena   cha,
Prabhu   pumaan  naiva karothi   samyugam,
Madhye ranam   krutha visramo yuvaam,
Yeka kaomyeva nirantharaahavam.

4.“ A gentleman does   not  fight a war,
With  Tired or  scared  person or a boy ,
You both lads  are taking rest  in between,
The war and I being alone  am fighting without rest.”

5.Jnaathwaa   praseedaisha   rane jithosmyaham,
Daithya dwayenaa abja sambhavam  jigamsunaa,
Sarvam  kadakshai sthava saadhyamathra  maam,
Rakshethi Vakthraa aarama bhashadhaa  Harim.

5.They both realizing that  Lord Vishnu was   tired,
Kept themselves far away , and Vishnu took rest,
And became alright and started  praying   you,
Who is merciful  and whose anklets make  a sound of kindness,
And to please you started   praying to you.

6.Bhooyopi  kurvan  ranamachyuthe hasan,
Kaamathurou  they  mukha  padma darsanaath,
THaavaaha thushto asmyathulou rane yuvaam,
Dadamyaham   vaam varamesha vanchitham.
6.“Oh goddess , become  pleased with me, I have been defeated,
By these two asuras who  are interested  in killing  Lord Brahma,
In this war, and Is it not  true that everything  becomes possible,
By just a glance of yours and so please save me”
And then she told   in clear   terms to Lord Vishnu.

7.Yudham kuru thwaam  jahi tho mayaa  brusam,
Sammohithou  vakra drusothyayam  thwayaa ,
Samjnoditho  drushtamanaa Maharnave,
Tasdhou  tanaaya aayayathuscha Dhanavou.

7.”You fight  war with  them as due to my slanting  glance ,
They both have   attained a state  of trance”
And with your c encouragement like   this  ,
Lord Vishnu was enthused  and stood  ready  ,
To fight  in the   ocean of war  and those Asuras came there.

8.Bhooyopi kurvan   ranamachyutho hasan,
Kamathurou  the mukha  padma darasanaath,
Thaavaaha  thushto asamyathulou Rane yuvaam,
Dadamyaham   vaam varamesha vanchitham.

8.When they were  fighting in the war again,
Lord Vishnu  laughingly told them   , who developed,
Passionate love  after seeing    your lotus like face,
“I am happy , you both lads are  unmatched  in your prowess,
In fighting the war and So I  desire to give you   a boon that you  desire.”

9.Thavoochathura  viddhi  hare  na yaachakaa,
Vaavo sdadavasthava vanchitham varam,
Naasathyavaachou  sma  itheeritho Hari,
Sthwaam  samsmaran SAthru   jigeeshayaa  abraveeth.

9.They told  ,” Oh Lord   Vishnu   , understand this,
We are   not beggars and so   we would give you  the boon,
That you request for. Please understand  that we do not lie.”
Hearing this Lord Vishnu thought of you ,
And with a desire   to win , he told  them like this.

10.Mahyam varam yachchatha  Madhya may yatho,
Vadhyou yuvaam  syaathamitheerithaavubhou,
Dushtaavaapsu   leenam   sakalam   samuchathu,
Sthwam   sathya vaang nou  jahi   nirjjale   stale.

10.”Please give me the boon by which  I would be,
Able   to kill you both “ and hearing this , those two told,
Seeing that   everything   has  been drowned   in water,
“You tell the truth and you can kill both of us ,
In a place   that is devoid   of any water.”

11. Asthvevamithyathdrutha vaang mudhaa  Hari,
Sworou Prudhavunnamithe jalopari,
Kruthwaa arena thachchirasi  thadha achinnath,
Swachandha mruthyu thava maayaya hathou.

11.Lord Vishnu  said “let it be like that “  supporting ,
Their words and with great joy  Lord  Vishnu  ,
Lifted his thick thighs  projected above the water ,
Kept their heads on his thighs   and cut them off  ,
With his holy wheel and they whose   death,
Was chosen by them , dies due to  your  Maaya.

12.Dweshascha ragascha   sadaa mamambike,
Daithyou  hrudhi  stothra viveka maadhava ,
AAbhyaam   karothyeva ranam   jayathwayam  ,
Thubhyam  Mahakali  nama praseedha may.

12.Oh my mother  , always   the asuras   called  hatred ,
And passion   exist in my mind, and  there  the wisdom,
Called Vishnu  is keeping on fighting a war with these asuras,

Let the wisdom called  Vishnu win, I salute you, be please with me.
