(there was an Asura called Aruna who my mastery over Gayathri manthra   got several boons  which included that he would not be killed by two legged or 4 legged Animals.When the Devas were in trouble, as per instruction of the Goddess  , their Guru met him and made him not chant Gayatri manthra, The bees(Bramara) with six legs which rose from the  body of the Goddess  killed him. This story occurs in 13^th chapter  of the tenth book  of Devi Bhagawatham. This form of the goddess  has a temple in Sri Sailam.  )

1.Kaschid puraa manthramudeerya gaya-,

Threethi  prasidham dithijo arunakhyaa,

Chiraya   kruthwaa  thapa   athmayono,

Prasaaadhidhapa  varanapoorvaan

1.Once upon a time   an asura called   Aruna,

Chanting   the famous Gayathri manthra,

Did Thapas  for a long time, pleased,

Lord Brahma and got wonderful boons from him.

2.Stri pumbirasthraiscgha  rane dwipaadhai-,

Schatush padhai  schapyu bhayathmakaischa,

Avadhyathaam  deva  paraajayam cha  ,

Labdhwaa  sa  druptho divamaasa sadha

2.He got the boon   that he should not be killed  by male or female,

By animals with two or four legs. A mixture of these,

By arrows in war and  the power to defeat devas,

And   with great pride    entered   the heaven.

3.Rane jithaa   daithyabhayena  loka-,

Palai   saha swaswapadhaani hithwaa,

Devaa   druthaa   prapya   shivam ripoonaam,

Samyag vadhopaya machinthayamscha .

3.The devas along with those  who took care  ,

Of the world got defeated   in war and,

They left their positions and ran  away,

Due to fear , met Lord Shiva   and started,

Thinking of  methods to win the war.

4.Thadhaabhavath  kapya sareerini vaag-,

Bhajetha  devi  shubhameva va syaath,

Daithya aruno  vardhayatheeha gaaya-,

Trupaasanena aathmabalam  thwadrushyam.

4.Then they heard   a voice    from the   sky,

“Pray the Goddess and you will get benefitted,

And since the asura Aruna has mastered Gayathri,

He is now  getting great   strength  of the soul.

5.Yadhyesha tham  manthara  japam  jahaathi,

Sa durbala saadhyavadhopi   cha syaadh,

Yevam  nisamya  tridasai   prahrushtai-,

Rabhyarthitho deva guru  prathasthe .

5.If that asura stops chanting   that  manthra ,

He would become weak and  he  can be killed.”

Hearing this the devas  became happy and at,

Their request their Guru started to  go.

6.Sa prapa  daithyam  yathi roopa dhaari,

Prathyudratho mantrajapathi suktham,

Smithardramooche  kusali  sabandhu,

Mithro  bhavaan  kim  jagadeka veera

6.He reached the Asura   in the Garb of a  Sanyasi,

And was received by him well and then Guru asked ,

Him who was interested  in the chanting of manthras,

“Are you, your relations, friends Okay ?’

7.Daithyasya they  manthra japena kim yo ,

Noonam  balishtam  thwabalam  karothi,

Yenaivaa  devaa abalaa  raneshu,

Thwayaa jithaa sthvam   swahitham kurushva.

7.”What is the use of chanting   this manthra   to you,

Who is an asura as it would  make a strong one weak,

And that is the reason why devas   are becoming weak,

And were being defeated by you. So please,

Do those   things which would do good to your future.”

8.Sathyaasino  mathrajapena raga-,

Dweshaadhi   jethum   sathatham yathanthe,

Na thawm yathir naapi   mumusharatha,

Kamaadhi sakthasya   japena kim they.

8.’ Sages   chant Manthras  so that  they can  win over,

Anger and passion  and they keep on trying it.

You are  not a sage and not one interested,

In Salvation and so to you who is interested  in passion,

And prosperity, what can this     chant do?”

9.Yekam hi manthram  samupaswahe  dwou,

THenaasi   mithram  mama thadh vadhaami  ,

Manthrascha may   mukthidha  yeva thubhyam,

Vrudhim  na  dadhyaadhayamithyavehi.

9.”WE   both chant and serve  the same  Manthra,

And so you are my friend and that is why I am telling you.

Manthra   is giving salvation to me and  it is not ,

Going to give growth to you.Please know  this.”

10.Brhaspadhaaveva mudheerya yaathe,

SAthyam  thaduktham  dithijo  vichinthya  ,

Kramaajjahou  manthra japam   sadaa  him

Mooda  para proktha vineya  budhi.

10.After telling this and after  Brahaspathi left,

That asura   thought that   what he said was true,

And  step by step left away the chanting of the manthra.

S Does not a fool mortgage his brain for   words of others.

11.Evam gurou kurvathidauthyabheethai,

Kruthwaa  thapoyoga japaadwaraadhi,

Jaambunadheswaryamarai   sthuthwaa  thwam,

Prasaadithaa   pradarabhoo krupaardraa.

11.When Lord Guru was  doing this , Hey Jambunatheswari,

The Devas who were  scared  by the Asura prayed ,

To you using Thapas  , yoga , chanting and Yajna,

And you became pleased   and appeared  before them drenched in mercy.

12Thwad  deha jaathair bramaraiynanthair,

Daithya  sasainyo   viphalaasthra sasthraa ,

Dashto hatha sthwam  cha nathiprasanna ,

Pasyathsu   deveshu  thirohithaabhoo.

12.From your bodies innumerable   bees arose,

To attack him  as an army and his  arrows weapons .

Were  not effective against them and he was killed and  ,

You who were pleased  by the prayer of devas disappeared.

13.  Swadehatho  vai bramaraan  vidhaathri,

Thwam  bramareethi  pradithaa  jagathsu,

Aho vichithrasthava devi leelaa,

Namo namasthe   bhuvanesi  mathaa.

13,Because you produced   bees from your biody,

In the world you became  famous as  Bramarambika,

Your sports   are wonderful  and   strange ,

Oh goddess  of universe , Oh Mother , my salutations to you.
